If you feel like its tough for you to follow the thought process of your partner with ADD or ADHD, you're not alone. Check out these tips for helping you and your partner understand one another.

TIPS:

1. Use Clear and Positive Communication

ADHD can make it challenging for the partner to focus or remember details. Be clear, concise, and kind when discussing important matters. Instead of saying, "You never listen to me," try, "I feel unheard when we talk—can we try a new way of communicating?"

2. Create Shared Routines

Consistency helps manage ADHD. Work together to set routines for daily tasks, like dividing chores or scheduling quality time. Use visual aids like calendars or apps (e.g., Todoist or Cozi) to stay on track.

3. Focus on Strengths and Teamwork

ADHD often comes with strengths like creativity, energy, or spontaneity. Highlight and celebrate these qualities, and approach challenges as a team. For example, if one partner struggles with organization, the other might assist with creating structure.

Here at Karis Health, we offer ADHD therapy and coaching for individuals and couples.
